Announcements and Ministry Opportunities

Pastor’s Corner

Central Family,

I'll try not to jinx it, but I walked outside this morning and the air was almost crisp! According to the calendar, fall started last week but it takes the weather in Texas a little while to get on board with the change.

Change is funny that way. Sometimes, we're caught off-guard, and it happens faster than we'd like. Other times, it seems that it will never come no matter how much we hope and pray for it to come. Regardless of our preference, change happens.

In the life of a local church, a pastoral change always brings more change with it. Some comes quickly and others come slowly. Change can produce anxiety in some and inspire hope in others at the same time. What has always brought me peace in times of transition is the truth we proclaimed in worship on Sunday: God cares about it more than we do!

No matter the worries or anxieties of our hearts God knows them, hears them, and cares about them. We can trust God with our worries because we know God's heart and God knows our heart. This is one reason we're having our Listening Tour meetings. I'm interested in hearing your heart for Jesus and for this church. I firmly believe this is how we move forward together in the best way possible.

If you haven't had a chance to sign up for a Listening Tour date yet you can call the church office or find our signup sheets on Sunday mornings. I'm looking forward to sharing this time with you!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Dave Brower

Sunday Worship Schedule

Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 am

Worship at 10:30 am in-person and live streamed on Facebook.

October’s Special Communion Offering

On Sunday, October 2, our special communion offering will go towards the Pat Stroman Memorial Scholarship presented by Central to someone in our Conference going to college and/or attending seminary. Mr. Pat was a life-long Methodist and a key part of the creation of Central United Methodist Church with the union of Brookview, St. John’s and Trinity United Methodist Churches. Pat’s involvement in the Methodist church expanded beyond his local church. He was elected to serve in various Methodist leadership roles such as District Lay Leader, Conference Lay Leader, President of the National Association of Conference Lay Leaders, and District Council on Ministries. He has also served on the Wesleyan Homes Board as President and Trustee. He had a key leadership role in the Baylor Wesley Foundation as well. Pat was honored to be the only Central Delegate to Annual Conference to ever serve eight consecutive years.  If you would like to give a gift to help continue the values Mr. Pat held about education and ministry in the United Methodist Church, simply leave it on the prayer rail during our time of communion, mail it to the church, or bring it by the church office. Checks can be made out to Central UMC with “Pat Stroman” in the memo line.

Get Fed Wednesdays

Wednesday, September 28 , dinner for everyone (suggested donation of $5) starting at 5:00 pm. The menu is Meatloaf, Loaded Mashed Potatoes & Salad and of course Dessert. Starting at 6:00 pm, Fred Hills will be doing a Bible study for the next two weeks called “A Walk Through the Bible”.  This study is opened to all ages.  Mark your Wednesdays as the evening you have an opportunity to get fed physically and spiritually with your church family.

Name Badges

Most of you are aware that Central has begun wearing name badges so both the Pastor and his family can get to know the church family and it helps visitors to get to know us. Please leave your badge in the foyer at the end of the Worship Service.

Thank you Mike Welch for making the badges.

Children’s Ministry

Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm-7:30pm, children ages nursery through 5th grade will meet at the church for fun, fellowship and learn more about Jesus. Please invite your friends and neighbors to participate. Any questions can be directed to Chesley Maeyaert.

Youth Ministry

Youth activities Wednesday, at 6:00 pm in the Youth room for fellowship, games, and prayer.  Youth from 6th grade through 12th grade. Please enter through the covered entrance.

If you are interested in volunteering with our youth, please do not hesitate to reach out to Alina.

Children in Church

A nursery is available during our worship service for infants and toddlers, however we really encourage all of our children to attend the worship service with their families. We believe that worship should be a family activity with our children learning at a young age the rhythm of worship. To help with the “wiggles,” there are activity bags for the children at the back of the sanctuary.

Music Ministries

Join us on Wednesday nights for Chancel Choir rehearsal! We sing, rehearse and have a great time from 7pm-8pm. All are welcomed! Reach out to Zachary Owens or the church office for more information.

Handbells rehearsals immediately following the Worship Service. If you are interested in “ringing” with us, please reach out to Zachary Owens for more information.

Senior Ministry News and Updates

Central Saints Luncheon will be October 27 at 12:00 pm. Bring a covered dish enough to share with others. Invite friends and neighbors and come for fun and fellowship. Painting with a Twist and short trips coming soon.  Watch for more information in the weekly update. Call Dwyane Warneke at the church office or my cell phone anytime for any questions or concerns.

Church Under the Bridge at the Silos

Central is signed up to cook and serve for Church Under the Bridge on October 30 and December 11.  Everyone is welcome to join us. We usually cook the morning of and serve at 10:00am. If you are interested contact Liz Everett. This is a wonderful outreach ministry that touches the lives of many homeless and poor people.

Everyone is invited to fill out an Emergency Contact Card and return it to the church office.  If something were to happen while at church, the right person/people can be notified of your situation.  The card information is confidential and will only be used in case of an emergency.  Cards are available in the Foyer.

Need a Ride to Church?

If you would like a ride to church on Sunday, just let Nancy know in the church office by calling 254-420-2862 by Noon on Thursday and the van will pick you up and take you back home after the worship service.

Meals on Wheels Drivers

Thank you for all those who have volunteered to drive on Fridays. We still need volunteers to be available to sub Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The driver needs to be at the church to pick up meals at 10:30 am. Deliveries are typically finished by 11:30 am. Call Jane Keahey ASAP.

Ways to be in Ministry to our Neighbors

We can still be the church in our community by continued support of various ministries that are helping and offering Jesus and love to our neighbors. Central is still collecting donations for the following ministries:

  • New Stuffed Animals for Baylor, Scott and White Hillcrest’s Chaplain’s office.
  • Canned Goods for Caritas.  Stan Peters took a 110 lbs of dry and canned food to Caritas for the month of September. Thank you Stan and Central family for your generosity to this ministry.
  • Mosquito Spray for the homeless through the Hangar.
  • Neighbor Bags to our neighbors in need.
  • Small bottles or boxes of juice.

Thank you, Central family for your willingness to share the love of Jesus with others. You are making a difference for the kingdom of God, one relationship at a time.
