Pastor Dave's Corner

Central Famil

We had difficulties with our streaming service yesterday during worship. If you missed worshiping with us be sure to catch up on our Thank Full series on how to be thankful in the present. Check out yesterday's worship here.

In the ministry world, November is typically the season known as "get ready for Advent." I'll admit, my calendar this week is full of to-do's for us to be ready for a great Advent season. I find great comfort in being planned and prepared for what lies ahead. If I'm not careful, this can become an idol for me.

Those who know me well can attest, I'm not always the most flexible when plans are changed suddenly. It takes me a minute to adjust and wrap my mind around the change. That's because I've been thinking about what the plan is for a while and have grown to accept what I thought was going to happen. I like the comfort of certainty.

The truth of life is, there is very little certainty outside of the certainty of God's love and faithfulness. We can pretend that we have certainly. We can pretend that if we set up our video stream the same each and every week that we will have the same predictable result each and every week. But that's not the case! It's not the case with our lives either.

One way that I am practicing thankfulness in this season is to not get too caught up in what I think should happen and learn to let God guide the process a little more. A wise mentor once told me to plan and plan well, but to hold onto my plans like I would a rope. Let them move through your hands because if you hold them too tight you're bound to get burned.

One way we are preparing for Advent is by preparing for guests in worship. Advent is a season where people feel called to worship. One of the best ways to prepare for guests is to prepare to greet them well. If you are interested in being a part of our hospitality team and greeting people on Sundays and handing out bulletins.

The hospitality team prepares people to encounter God in worship by creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere as people enter the building. If you're interested, please reply to this email and let us know!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Dave Brower

Most of you are aware that Central has begun wearing name badges so both the Pastor and his family can get to know the church family and it helps visitors to get to know us. Please leave your badge in the foyer at the end of the Worship Service. Thank you Mike Welch for making the badges.

Need a Ride to Church?

If you would like a ride to church on Sunday, just let Nancy know in the church office by calling 254-420-2862 by Noon on Thursday and the van will pick you up and take you back home after the worship service. We are still looking for volunteers to drive the van on Sunday mornings. We have two now and if we could get one or two more then we could take turns and do it once every 4 weeks or so.

Meals on Wheels Drivers

Thank you for all those who have volunteered to drive on Fridays. We still need volunteers to be available to sub Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The driver needs to be at the church to pick up meals at 10:30 am. Deliveries are typically finished by 11:30 am. Call Jane Keahey ASAP.

Ways to be in Ministry to our Neighbors

We can still be the church in our community by continued support of various ministries that are helping and offering Jesus and love to our neighbors. Central is still collecting donations for the following ministries:

  • - New Stuffed Animals for Baylor, Scott and White Hillcrest’s Chaplain’s office.
  • - Canned Goods for Caritas.
  • - Coffee for the homeless through the Hangar.
  • - Neighbor Bags to our neighbors in need.
  • - Small bottles or boxes of juice.

Thank you, Central family for your willingness to share the love of Jesus with others. You are making a difference for the kingdom of God, one relationship at a time.
