Central United Methodist Church was formed by the union of Brookview United Methodist Church, St. John's United Methodist Church, and Trinity United Methodist Church on October 2, 1988.

On July 2, 1991, fourteen acres of property were purchased at the corner of New Road and Franklin Avenue for $850,000.  In the fall of that same year, an "Activity Center" was erected on the site.  This temporary facility housed church-wide events, Bible studies, youth and children's programs, Saturday evening worship, committee meetings and adult gatherings for 3 years.  In November of 1994, the site was sold to the Lowe's Corporation for $3.5 million.  Worship was moved to Waco Christian School.

On February 22, 1995, fifty acres were purchased at Highway 6 and Bagby Avenue for $1 million.  On December 27, 1995, construction began on our current building.  Construction was finished on September 22, 1996 and the first worship service was held on March 1, 1997.  Since the original union of the three churches, the mission has remained the same:  To make disciples of Jesus Christ by loving God, loving people and serving the world one relationship at a time.
